Director's Choice has developed a special continuing education opportunity for up and coming music educators to experience the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. This opportunity is actually the brain child of our Director of Performance Alan Hanna born from his conversations with some of our music educator friends and clients. As a former music educator himself, Alan has a deep passion for the development of music educators and sustainment and advancement of music education in our schools. I sat down with Alan to really understand from an educator's perspective, what attendance at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago has to offer a developing music directors and their programs.
As music educators, we all know the value and necessity of performance and festival participation, but with so many choices, how do you know which one is the right fit for your group?
As music educators and long time advocates for all things music education, it made perfect sense for Director’s Choice to partner with the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band (USAAAMB) to help support the students and their families chosen to march in the 2018 bowl game.
We knew this partnership would be a good fit for us, since the USAAAMB supports our core mission and values, but what I did not anticipate was the impact that Bowl Week and these amazing young musicians would have on us.
All of us sat in that sophomore level Music History class in college and dreamt about the extraordinary band we were going to have someday. But, with a bit of teaching experience under my belt, and lots of trial and error, it occurred to me that empowering my students to make their band better is really the key.
